Dandi Maestre
Dandi’s sensibility and design shows a mix of cultures (having lived and studied in North America and Europe, and being born in Colombia, South America, and now currently living and working in Toronto). Trained in design and photography in the School of Visual Arts, in New York, she has worked for a long time as a graphic designer and has continued to produce, exhibit and sell her photography. Her unique blend of naive and urban culture comes to life in her collections. Dandi has traveled throughout her life, and lived all around, from Colombia to Montreux to New York to Toronto, absorbing the distinctive styles of each place into her own unique vision. Her work is naturally inspired by a latin flavour, but is strongly connected with the American popular culture. Her challenge in creating her designs is to "celebrate the latin spirit while keeping an urban chic quality that lets women express their own style. Style should not be dictated by trends, it should be an integral part of everybody’s attitude and appearance. Style is all about individuality.” Dandi's Inspiration: My inspiration comes from all objects of nature, water, insects, toys, religious objects, arts and crafts, music, optimism. My passion for life, my love for nature, and my curiosity have brought me to design this unique line of jewelry. These are pieces of art that exhale beauty, energy, exuberance, and simplicity, with an exotic touch. I see my jewelry as objects producing magical or unique effects, worn or kept for its supposed magical power (amulets, charms and talismans), objects with a special energy. Many of my designs are inspired in nature. I search inspiration in new materials, and I look for new materials all over Toronto, in my travels to South America, in the beach, in the forest."
